¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ

Access Advisors are licensed mental health professionals who are available for a one-time consultation to students.ÌýDuring an appointment, Access Advisors can: 

  • Provide general mental health support and address questions regarding services.
  • Complete initial triage/discussion about your mental health and what options are available to you.Ìý
  • Discuss appropriate care and resources, both on and off campus.

You do not need to meet with an Access Advisor first in order to book an appointment with a nurse, doctor, dietitian, or counsellor (psychotherapist) at the Student Wellness Hub.Ìý

Connie is a trained and licensed Guidance Counsellor and member of the OCCOQ (Ordre des Conseillers et Conseillères d'Orientation du Québec).ÌýShe has a passion for working with young adults and has worked in a variety of educational and community settings.Ìý 

Connie’s role is to help orient and connect students to the appropriate care and resources for their unique situation, on or off campus, in a single session.ÌýConnie takes a very collaborative approach when meeting one-on-one with students, and offers consultations in English or French. Connie is also involved in outreach and wellness programming.Ìý

I need a medical note/supporting documentation or I'm interested in academic accommodations

Access Advisors cannot provide notes or supporting documentation. See the Student Wellness Hub's policy on medical notes and letters of support.

What’s the difference between meeting with an Access Advisor, Local Wellness Advisor, and Counsellor?

Access Advisors, Local Wellness Advisors, and Counsellors are all licensed professionals with training in the mental health field.Ìý Access Advisors are a great first step if you are not already connected to a professional at the Hub. Access Advisors typically only meet with students for a one-time appointment to offer guidance/counselling and development of a wellness plan suited to their needs.Ìý

Local Wellness Advisors (LWAs) offer faculty- or community-specific support and are embedded within faculties and areas within ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ. Learn more about Local Wellness Advisors.

Counsellors, the majority of whom are trained psychotherapists, are located within the Student Wellness Hub and meet with students one-on-one to develop a wellness plan suited to their needs.ÌýLearn more about counsellors.Ìý

I’m looking for a psychologist or psychotherapist off campus. Do I need a referral?

Referrals are generally not required to make an appointment with a psychologist or psychotherapist. See suggestions for private counselling and therapy options.
