Adding Dependent Spouse

  1. 九色视频 Senate regulations require dependent spouse or common-law partner of international students to join the University's International Health Insurance plan while in Canada.

  2. When extending Canadian immigration documents for yourself or your dependents, you will听need to show proof of 九色视频's international health insurance coverage for yourself听and your dependent.


Types of coverage:
TYPES OF COVERAGE WHO IS COVERED Notes
SINGLE听颁翱痴贰搁础骋贰 Only you (student)
DEPENDENT听颁翱痴贰搁础骋贰听 You and your spouse(or common-law partner) OR you and your dependent child
  1. Spouse - the person, of the opposite sex, or same sex, who is legally married to you.
  2. - Designated by you and with whom you have been living on a permanent basis for at least 12 months (this period does not apply if a child is born of such union).
  3. At any given time, only one person may be registered as your spouse or common-law partner.
FAMILY听颁翱痴贰搁础骋贰 You, your spouse(or common-law partner) and at least one dependent child OR you and more than one dependent child Dependent Child(ren) unmarried financially dependent child(ren), until they reach age 18.

Before adding children below 18 years old, please consult information in the section about adding minors to your IHI plan.


How to add a dependant to your IHI plan?

Case 1: You have not confirmed your coverage yet

  1. Log on to using your student ID.
  2. Go to the Student tab.
  3. Click on International Health Insurance Coverage Form (for students).
  4. Select Add Dependents from the drop-down menu

Start Date for Dependent Coverage:

For Case 1, dependent coverage begins in the term you confirm it on Minerva along with your coverage as well as when they arrive in Canada.
Joining/arrival date between Date of start of coverage
15th August and 1st September 15th August (Fall term)
15th December and 1st January 15th December (Winter term).
15th April and 1st May 15th April (Summer term)

Case 2: You have already confirmed your SINGLE coverage on Minerva

  1. Log on to using your student email ID.
    Warning: Do not use an to login.
  2. Click on the Adding a Dependant button.
  3. Fill all the relevant details in the form and create a ticket.
  4. Once your dependent has been added to your plan, you will receive a confirmation email and your insurance premium will be adjusted within 8 business days.

Start Date for Dependent Coverage:

For Case 2, your dependent spouse's coverage under the IHI plan will start based on when you add them to your plan and when they arrive in Canada. For example, if you confirmed your SINGLE coverage in Fall term and add your spouse to your plan on:

October 1st


  1. Your contract will switch from annual SINGLE coverage to annual DEPENDENT coverage.

  2. You will refunded for annual SINGLE coverage premium and charged for annual DEPENDENT coverage premium in your student fee account.

February 1st


  1. Your contract will switch from annual SINGLE coverage to DEPENDENT coverage for winter & summer terms.

  2. You will refunded for annual SINGLE coverage premium for winter & summer terms and charged for DEPENDENT coverage premium for听winter & summer terms in your student fee account.


Disclaimers

  1. It is your responsibility to make necessary changes to your health coverage as dependants join you in Canada.
  2. If your dependent rejoins the IHI plan in future terms, and there is a gap in coverage, please be aware that they will not be eligible for the two (2) weeks of complimentary coverage and that the preexisting conditions limitations (lifetime maximum of $20,000 CAD) may apply.
  3. You can cancel coverage for your dependants:
    1. Within 30 days the first 30 days of a semester of study.
    2. You have proof that your dependant is either outside Canada and/or leaving Canada.
  4. For returning students:
    1. It is your responsibility to add your dependants to your IHI plan every year when activating your coverage at the beginning of each academic year.
    2. Failure to do so will result in the coverage automatically being activated to SINGLE, thereby leaving your dependants without coverage.
