Biography:

Luis Daniel Cruz Zaragoza is a molecular and cell biologist and biochemist whose research focuses on the fundamental mechanisms that govern organelle biogenesis, function, and communication. His work examines how mitochondria and peroxisomes collaborate as part of a broader interorganelle crosstalk network to sustain cellular metabolism, redox balance, and human health. With a strong background in organelle biogenesis, his research aims to understand how defects in these processes contribute to rare genetic disorders and common diseases such as cancer and aging-related decline. He studies how mitochondrial gene expression is controlled from transcription to RNA maturation and stability. By developing new tools and combining molecular biology with systems-level approaches, his long-term goal is to discover new mechanisms of interorganelle communication and apply these insights to develop precision medicine strategies.
