ThisÌý2-hour workshopÌýis aÌýhands-on exploration of Unix systems throughÌý´Ú´Ç³Ü°ùÌýprogressive modules.ÌýFrom foundational insights into system structure and terminal communication to text processing and bash scripting, each module buildsÌýon theÌýpreviousÌýone withÌýpractical examples.Ìý°Õ³ó±ðÌýworkshop concludesÌýwith a comprehensive reviewÌýof the content,Ìýcontextualized inÌýterms ofÌýhigh-performance computingÌýsystems.

Ìý

At the end of this workshop, participants will:
-Ìý
Understand the core structure of the Unix operating system.
-Ìý
Navigate the Unix terminal efficiently and perform basic file operations.
-Ìý
Acquire basic text processing skills using the terminal.
-Ìý
Gain insights into the applications and benefits of high-performance computing.
- Learn how to connect to a server and understand the fundamentals of job scheduling.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Attendance for ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ graduate students and postdoctoral fellows is subsidized by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. All other attendees such as undergraduate students, interns and/or graduate students from other institutions are required to purchase a ticket to cover organizational and staffing costs. To complete your registration, you must e-transfer $10 (undergraduate student/trainee) $25 (staff) or $100 (faculty) to workshop-micm [at] mcgill.ca within 24 hours of RSVP'ing to this event. If we do not receive your e-transfer, you will have given up your spot.
