On October 1, 2024, Lynne McVey, RN, MSc(A)N, began her 5-year mandate as Associate Dean and Director, Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN). Recognized for her extensive experience in both nursing practice and as a CEO in healthcare, Prof. McVey is a two-time graduate of ��ɫ��Ƶ university, and completed a fellowship in the Wharton Fellows Program in Health Management for Nurse Executives at the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, as well as the Strategy for Healthcare Delivery Program at Harvard Business School. Last fall, several members of the Class of 2006 Direct-Entry Master’s in Nursing graduates who are faculty members at the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN) began meeting regularly over lunch to reconnect, share experiences and support each other personally and professionally. “It struck us as remarkable that such a large representation of our cohort wound up back at ��ɫ��Ƶ teaching nursing, especially when compared with other cohorts,” says Sonia Castiglione.

ISoN and clinical partners well represented at national NP Conference

A group of ��ɫ��Ƶ faculty and clinical partners presented four posters and one oral presentation at the second Annual National Nurse Practitioner Association of Canada (NPAC) conference, April 11-12, 2025 in Toronto. These presentations were in the context of the work being done by the ��ɫ��Ƶ-CODIM-ODIM team that received a “��ɫ��Ƶ Nursing Collaborative for Education and Innovation in Patient-and-Family-Centered Care” operating grant ($25,000) for their project entitled: Implementing a Model of Excellence in Interprofessional Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Clinical Education.

Indigenous Nurses Day 2025

On April 10, 2025, the Office of Social Accountability in Nursing (OSAN) organized a special hybrid event at the Ingram School of Nursing to celebrate and honour the contributions of Indigenous nurses and culture. Attended by 50 people in person and several more online, including nursing students, faculty, staff, OSAN committee members and Indigenous community partners, the event also honoured the legacy of Edith Anderson Monture, Canada's first Indigenous nurse.

Hosted by the Nursing Graduate Students Association (NGSA) in collaboration with the Nursing Peer Mentorship Program (NPMP), Nursing Wellness Week 2025, was a breath of fresh air. From April 14-17, approximately 20 students from nursing cohorts at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as faculty came together for a well-deserved break and celebration of the end of the academic year. With a mix of learning, creativity, and movement, the fourth annual event had something for everyone, and this year’s lineup was packed with incredible guests and collaborations!

Children’s Weeks highlight the importance of play in child development and physical assessment

For three weeks starting at the end of February, faculty and staff at the Ingram School of Nursing brought their children into the Satoko Shibata Clinical Nursing Laboratories for a fun and interactive learning experience in connection with a unit on pediatric health and physical assessment. Small groups of BNI students conducted mini-simulations in these health and physical assessment labs that mimicked a primary care "well child visit" while BScN students conducted health and physical assessments with a focus on communication skills and gathering information through observation.

Programs include free French- and English-language training, as well as bursaries for students committed to working in the public sector post-graduation and funding for research projects that examine relationships between language, access to health and social services, and health-related outcomes. Inaugural Indigenous Nurse Mentorship Gathering held at Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre

On February 27, 2025, Indigenous nurses and nursing students came together for the inaugural Indigenous Nurse Mentorship Gathering at the Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre in Kahnawake. Indigenous nurses remain underrepresented both in the nursing profession and in nursing education, making initiatives like the Indigenous Nurse Mentorship program crucial.

Dialogue ��ɫ��Ƶ bursary alleviates financial burden

As a second-year BScN student, Lynn Joseph has been maintaining an exhausting schedule balancing full-time studies, part-time work at a neighbourhood CHSLD (seniors’ nursing home) and tutoring two students. When she found out while on her lunch break during her clinical placement at a CLSC that she had been awarded a $10,000 bursary from Dialogue ��ɫ��Ƶ, she cried tears of joy and relief. “This award has taken a huge weight off my shoulders. It will cover my tuition and allow me to reduce my hours at work so that I can concentrate more on my studies,” she explains.
