According to the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), October and November consistently see spikes in pedestrian injuries and fatalities, with a notable increase in deaths in recent years.

To draw attention to this problem, the SAAQ marks Pedestrian Safety Month each October, as do authorities in several other jurisdictions.
Thu, 09 Oct 2025 14:32:42 +0000 kay.pettigrew@mcgill.ca 326286 at /newsroom ‘Doom spiral’ a risk for public transit in post-pandemic era /newsroom/channels/news/doom-spiral-risk-public-transit-post-pandemic-era-357710
A new study from ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ warns that cutting public transit service could lead to a "doom spiral" resulting in a collapse of the system.

The researchers describe a vicious circle in which service cuts brought on by budget deficits drive transit users away; this drop in ridership triggers additional service cuts, which lead to further declines in usage.
Thu, 13 Jun 2024 16:06:13 +0000 keila.depape@mcgill.ca 310590 at /newsroom Clearing the air: wind farms more land efficient than previously thought /newsroom/channels/news/clearing-air-wind-farms-more-land-efficient-previously-thought-356777
Wind power is a source of energy that is both affordable and renewable.

However, decision-makers have been reluctant to invest in wind energy due to a perception that wind farms require a lot of land compared to electric power plants driven by fossil fuels. Research led by ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ and based on the assessment of the land-use of close to 320 wind farms in the U.S. (the largest study of its kind) paints a very different picture.
Mon, 15 Apr 2024 15:39:16 +0000 katherine.gombay@mcgill.ca 310445 at /newsroom Experts: Green hydrogen /newsroom/channels/news/experts-green-hydrogen-356623
AtkinsRéalis, formerly known as SNC-Lavalin, says it has been awarded the engineering contract for the Projet Mauricie green hydrogen hub in Quebec.
